Periodontal Maintenance

Treating and managing gum disease before it costs you teeth.

Periodontal (gum) disease is the leading cause of tooth loss in adults — and most people don’t know they have it until it’s advanced. We screen at every visit, treat early, and maintain your gums for life.

What is periodontal disease?

It starts as gingivitis — red, puffy, bleeding gums caused by plaque. Untreated, it advances to periodontitis: the bone supporting your teeth starts to break down. At its worst, teeth become loose and need to be removed. The good news: caught early, it’s very treatable.

Scaling and root planing

If you have moderate gum disease, we’ll start with a deep cleaning called scaling and root planing — removing plaque and tartar from below the gumline and smoothing root surfaces so gums can reattach.

Ongoing maintenance

After treatment, regular three- or four-month maintenance visits keep things stable. We also offer ARESTIN antibiotic therapy for stubborn pockets that don't respond to cleaning alone.
